Week 6 in Japan

Week 6 has been filled with travelling and snow. We spent our last few days in Kyoto getting ready to pack up and wandering around and then spent 6 hours on public transport in order to get to Aomori which is the northern-most city of the main island of Japan (Honshu). We then took a 2 hour flight to Sapporo which is where we are now and where we will be until January!

We're in Aomori! There's snow everywhere! Today is our first and only day here so photos of the snow later! Here are a few random photos I took yesterday.

Half a day in Aomori gone by!

In the morning it was snowing pretty hard! We went to visit Hakkoda Memorial Ship but we got there too early and it was closed.

Next we went to the Nebuta museum which had a number of floats from the Nebuta festival on display as well as information on how the floats are made etc. It was really cool! It's difficult to imagine with the whole place covered in snow but the festival looks as though it would be a colourful, noisy and bright place to be! The floats were really beautiful! They are made from a wire frame which has lights inside it and paper stretched over the frame which the design is painted onto.

We won a Mokona at the arcade. A dude helped us out, he and this woman had so many prizes! They knew what they were doing! We've decided to call her Modge. I have.... no idea why we decided to win her.... She's big and cuddly and really not appropriate for travelling.... But we really wanted to win something at the arcade! Didn't think that one through!

Last few photos from Aomori. For some reason we decided to walk out to close by the sea which meant going through the snow.... Recovered with karaoke!

And that's it! We're not really doing a lot at the moment so the next few blogs until we move on might be just as boring. We're currently living in a Share House which is exactly what it sounds like. The room is pretty large and it was a little depressing when we first got here because the walls were all white and there isn't much furniture at all, but we've moved the beds around and we've put up some things on the walls including a Christmas Countdown. We also went to the 100 yen shop to buy slippers, a mirror etc and gave each other around £20 to spend on gifts that are now wrapped and under the 'tree'!

This is our Christmas Tree! You can see that a bit of it needs sticking back down. Modge is there to look after the presents for us. At the 100 yen store I bought double sided sticky tape, I wrapped my presents upstairs and gave Boyfriend the room. When I got back he had wrapped all his presents as though it was single sided sticky tape that was coloured white? Ah well, at least they're wrapped!

Making paper chains this evening!
